Abstract

The research aims to verify, through bibliographical and documentary review, analysis ofcontent and interview techniques, what are the characteristics of the news broadcast about theTerena, Guarani and Guarani Ñandeva indigenous peoples, who are located in Bauru and the region.The central objective is to analyze how original peoples are represented throughjournalistic narratives, present in Jornal da Cidade and on the TV Tem news portal.Based on the representation of natives by the media, where stereotypical imaginaries are constructedwithin Brazilian society, we seek to understand how journalism operates in thisprocess of constructing the image of indigenous people. From the thoughts of Boaventura deSousa Santos, it is often possible to consider that the media reinforces the abyss betweensociety based on European customs and the culture of original peoples. The existing gapin journalism with reference to indigenous agendas reflects the logic of whiteness, bringing, inmany situations, people as invisible in society, in addition to the news being toldpunctually and without contextualization. Thus, the results, we believe, will allow us to verifyif there is a silencing of voices and stories of these peoples and cultures, also in the regionanalyzed.
