Abstract

Seeking to fill a bibliographical gap, this project aims to analyze the biographical consequences of the militant engagement of the Brazilian 1968 generation. Founded on rebellious and revolutionary, collective and individual landmarks, the Brazilian generation of 1968 was significantly linked to the armed struggle against the civil-military dictatorship. Through militant subjectivities, we can see the construction of a generational revolutionary ethos. In other words, it is noted that militant engagement at that juncture provided specific ways of acting, thinking, perceiving the world and perceiving oneself, constitutive and constituents of a collective identity. Although studies have been fruitful regarding the social and historical coordinates, national and international, that enabled the emergence of this generation and its political activity, gaps remain regarding the biographical consequences of the militant engagement of individuals participating in this generation, especially after the defeat of the revolutionary project symbolized by the armed struggle and social and political reintegration in Brazil after the Amnesty law, in 1979. Thus, although it is essential to understand the circumstances that served as the foundation for the Brazilian generation of 1968, this project aims, through the theoretical framework of the sociology of militant engagement, understand how the life trajectories of the members of this generation were crossed by political militancy. In this sense, the objective is, in particular, to analyze how these trajectories were transformed in the period after the armed struggle, placing on the agenda the possibility of disengagement, rupture with militancy and the need to remake projects and identities.
