Abstract

Ulcers pose a growing challenge to public health, demanding innovative and effective approaches. This project proposes the development of therapeutic films based on chitosan, enriched with ora-pro-nobis (OP) emulsion, to treat cutaneous wounds. OP, extracted from the Pereskia aculeata plant, stands out for its regenerative and nutritive properties, making it a promising candidate for these films. The emulsification technique will be used to encapsulate OP, allowing for its controlled release in the films, maximizing its therapeutic efficacy. Additionally, the effects of different emulsifiers (lectin, tween 80, sodium caseinate, and arabic gum) on the formation of emulsions and film properties will be explored. The project will encompass everything from the extraction and characterization of OP extract and its essential oil to the production and analysis of resulting emulsions and films. Methods such as spectroscopy, chromatography, and electron microscopy will be employed to evaluate the physicochemical and functional properties of the materials. The analysis of results will be systematically conducted, using statistical and qualitative techniques to extract meaningful insights. It is expected that the films demonstrate effectiveness as dressings for cutaneous wounds, with potential positive impact on public health and patients' quality of life. This project offers a unique opportunity for students to engage in cutting-edge scientific research, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of wound healing and preparing them for future academic and professional challenges.
