Abstract

Parental training programs have been utilized to assist in parenting, aiming to minimize negative educational practices correlated with a higher incidence of childhood behavioral problems and maximize positive educational practices correlated with greater development of children's social skills. In this regard, numerous programs have been developed or adapted, resulting in increasing availability for different populations. However, programs tailored to Brazilian immigrant families are either non-existent or scarce. The present research project aims to describe the effects of the Promove-Pais program applied to Brazilian caregivers residing in Portugal regarding educational practices, child behaviors, parental beliefs, and parental mental health. It is expected that 20 caregivers who report general indicators (complaints) of behavioral problems for children aged between five and ten years, residing in Portugal, will participate. Participants will be randomly selected and allocated to two experimental and two control groups. Children's and caregivers' behaviors will be assessed through baseline, pre-test, intermediary measure, post-test, and follow-up using the following instruments: Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire - SDQ (Brazilian version for parents), Socially Skilled Responses Questionnaire - QRSH (Brazilian version for parents), Checklist of Positive and Negative Educational Practices (Brazilian version for parents), Parental Beliefs Scale on Children's Emotional Competence - COMPE (Brazilian version), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 - PHQ-9 (Brazilian version), General Anxiety Disorder-7 - GAD-7 (Brazilian version). A clinical interview will be conducted during the pre-test evaluation. The application of Promove-Pais will be evaluated using a process assessment checklist. Data will be analyzed according to the best statistical model considering their characteristics.
