Abstract

This research project aims to carry out a systematic review of qualitative studies on aspects related to the mental health of people affected by self-inflicted burns, to be carried out according to the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute. It will consist of the following stages: development of the guiding research question; definition of the criteria for inclusion and exclusion of articles; development of search strategies; definition of databases; selection and critical evaluation of the articles that will form part of the final sample; data extraction, supported by a specific instrument; data synthesis; discussion and recommendations. To this end, this project was designed with the PRISMA checklist in mind. Primary studies will be selected, with a qualitative approach, without time or language restrictions, from the following databases: BVS, PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE, CINAHL and PSYCINFO. The search for gray literature will be carried out using Google Sholar, Darte-E and NDLTD. The study selection process will be carried out and described using the PRISMA flowchart. The SUMARI platform, with the Critical Appraisal Skills Program Qualitative Research Checklist, will be used to critically evaluate the studies that will be part of the final sample. As a result, we hope to identify the aspects related to the mental health of people affected by self-inflicted burns, before and after the self-injurious episode, as well as the factors that favor the continuity of treatment and minimize the occurrence of new episodes of self-mutilation and/or suicide attempts. These results could support the construction and validation of manuals and/or protocols for mental health care, aimed at health professionals who are directly involved in this type of care.
