Abstract

This research internship abroad project is part of the author's doctoral research, which aims to analyze the debates about teaching of architecture and design between 1962 and 1973 from a perspective that has not been widely researched in the historiography of teaching: the central and transversal character attributed to material production in professional training. The emblematic case of this process is the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo (FAU-USP), and in it the curricular reform carried out in 1962, the teaching forums of 1963, 1968 and 1969 and their concrete repercussions on the pedagogical project and teaching practices within the institution until 1973. This context is strained by boundary delimitation between the activity of architects and designers at this key moment of industrialization and mass consumption boom in Brazil. The research internship abroad thus seeks to continue and expand this disciplinary panorama of architecture and design, looking at how these pedagogical processes and changes in projectual culture took place in the United Kingdom, and how production comes to play a central role in such disciplinary movements.
