Histological and immunohistochemical analysis of the pulp tissue of rats subjected to dental bleaching with Dithionite-based bleaching tape

Abstract

Introduction: The home bleaching technique has been used frequently due to the comfort and lower concentration of active ingredients in hydrogen peroxide-based or carbamide peroxide (CP)-based gels. In addition, new bleaching products have been developed, such as sodium dithionite (Dit)-based bleaching tape. However, previous studies have shown that tooth bleaching can induce an inflammatory process in the pulp tissue, making it necessary to better evaluate bleaching agents in the pulp tissue. Objective: To evaluate in vivo the influence of bleaching strips based on different bleaching agents on the inflammatory process and maturation of collagen fibers in the pulp tissue of Wistar rat molars. Methods: 64 hemimaxillae from 32 rats randomly divided into 3 groups will be used: C - control (no treatment); FPC - PC tape; FDit - Dit tape. The treatments will be carried out for 2 hours a day and for 5 consecutive days. Immediately after treatment and after 2 days (n=8), the animals will be euthanized and the jaws removed and processed for histological analysis using H.E. and Picrosirius Red stains, and immunohistochemistry using the IL-6 and IL-10 immunomarkers. The data will be submitted to the appropriate statistical tests (p<0.05).
