Abstract

Considering the growth of e-sports consumption in Brazil and around the world, the objective of this project research is to investigate the productive process of specialized journalistic coverage in the so-called electronic sports. To this end, the evolution of the game is presented as a playful element, inherent to various animal species, their evolution into the sport as it is known today, until the advent of electronic games (e-sports), highlighting their undeniable representation in terms of audience, players, championships and economic factors involved. However, despite the importance of e-sports segment, there is a gap in professional journalistic coverage on the topic, which isbetween sports journalism and cultural journalism. Significant differences in the quality of e-sports coverage are seen when comparing traditional media and segmented media, originated digitally and without the mandatory presence of journalists as mediators. So, this project intends to investigate the production process on the topic, through interviews in depth, bibliographic review and documentary research. With this, we hope to understand reasons for gaps in journalistic production, understand specific procedures and situations in the field ofe-sports, among other significant elements. The results of this scientific initiation research should contribute to studies in the field of Communication, particularly in relation to journalismspecialized, since it is a relatively new theme in the journalistic andacademic.
