Abstract Peanuts partially obtain nitrogen from N-fixing bacteria. However, its production in sugarcane renovation areas and degraded pastures faces serious challenges due to poor soil quality. This condition limits biological nitrogen fixation (BNF), which is vital for supplying nitrogen to peanut and other legumes. The efficiency of BNF is closely linked to the availability of elements such as nickel, cobalt and molybdenum (NiCoMo). However, there are few studies that address the use of this triple combination to improve N acquisition through inoculation and/or co-inoculation in peanuts. Therefore, implementing strategies to improve the acquisition of these nutrients and optimize plant-soil interaction are fundamental to increasing peanut yields in these adverse conditions. In this study, we will evaluate whether the application of NiCoMo associated with inoculation and/or co-inoculation increases the acquisition of nutrients, the efficiency of BNF and the production of nitrogen compounds in peanut plants, as well as understanding whether these physiological/metabolic changes influence the increase in the yield of the crop. This study represents an advance in integrative practices for peanut production. Additionally, the findings will allow stakeholders to improve peanut yields in degraded soils, promote sustainable soil management practices and contribute to the development of more resilient agricultural systems. | |
