Abstract

Aging is a natural process that affects the skin, causing changes such as wrinkles, loss of elasticity, and age spots. With the significant increase in life expectancy and the pursuit of maintaining quality of life during the aging process, research on natural ingredients with properties that can mitigate the signs of skin aging has become a relevant and constantly explored topic in the cosmetic industry.Eugenia pyriformis Cambess (SisGen Registry No. AFCEBCE), popularly known as uvaia, is a plant native to the Atlantic Forest. Uvaia fruits are characterized by their rich composition of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, carotenoids, and other bioactive compounds, which have potentially beneficial properties for the skin, such as antioxidant activity. This project aims to extract, characterize, and incorporate the bioactive compounds of Eugenia pyriformis Cambess into proliposomes, an innovative active delivery system, to develop dermocosmetic formulations for the treatment of mature skin. This research explores Brazilian biodiversity as a source of raw materials for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, contributing to the identification and diversification of economically relevant crops, potentially aiding in the preservation of native vegetation and generating income for traditional communities. The developed formulations are expected to provide benefits such as improved hydration, elasticity, firmness, and wrinkle reduction, contributing to the health and well-being of mature skin.
