Abstract

This Scientific Initiation research aims to investigate the process of patrimonialization of Afro-Brazilian culture, focusing on empirical observation on religious communities of African origins (terreiros) in São Paulo that are currently requesting listing with COMPRESP (Municipal Preservation Council). of the Historical, Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the City of São Paulo).From repressed communities, terreiros have come to be seen in recent decades as spaces of resistance, organization, preservation and dissemination of values of African origin positively praised as national symbols. As a result, there is a growing number of sites listed at national, state and municipal levels as material and immaterial assets carried out by bodies for the preservation and safeguarding of socio-cultural heritage.In this research, by monitoring the production of anthropological reports that are being prepared by the supervisor of this IC in partnership with religious communities, we want to understand how this instrument, an important part in the instruction of the listing process, gives rise to representations of religious values and communities in dialogue with the cultural management of public services.
