Abstract

The purpose of this research is to contrast the technical and expressive resources used in violin performance that are common in traditional and contemporary repertoire. Based on works commissioned from Brazilian composers, the aim is to highlight the relevance of learning these resources and to present paths for the performance of any musical style, through the comparison with "mirror works^ or ^companion pieces" of the traditional repertoire for the instrument, which are similar due to the technical material used. For this research we established that the traditional school of violin is the one consolidated until the 19th century, which deliberately has its repertoire strongly represented in the course programs of institutions in Brazil. The importance of this research is justified by the need to expand and renew the pedagogical practices of the violin, still strongly based on the European tradition, and to include the works by Brazilian living contemporary composers in the curriculum of educational institutions and in artistic performances.
