Abstract

Asymmetric transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions are pivotal C-C bondformingprocesses in organic synthesis. In the PhD currently in progress in Brazil we havesynthesized Ruthenium complexes bearing oxazoline ligands and evaluated theirapplication in C-H arylation and C-H alkylation reactions - using aryl halides, iodoniumsalts and olefins, respectively. In this proposal, we intend to merge our expertise incatalysis by oxazoline-based transition-metal complexes with the know-how of theCrisenza group in electrochemistry to develop unprecedented asymmetric "Homo"-crosscouplingreactions. To this end, we will synthesize novel Ru-, Fe- and Co-complexesbearing chiral oxazoline ligands, determine their redox properties, and test their catalyticactivity under electrochemical conditions. This exchange period holds the potential toincrease our knowledge in the synthesis and characterization of transition-metalcatalysts, and their application in radical reactivity. This will inspire the next generationprojects in our group and the development of new lines of research.
