Abstract

This project aims to evaluate the Jiusti-Zanotto-Cassar-Andreeta (JZCA) model for glass-forming ability (GFA) and to test the hypothesis that glasses with low viscosity at the liquidus temperature may still exhibit good GFA if their liquidus temperature is also low. We have combined the SciGlass® and Interglad® databases to identify glasses with both low liquidus temperature and low viscosity at this temperature. The selected compositions will be synthesized and characterized at LaMaV-UFSCar (Brazil), where the liquidus temperature will be measured. Subsequently, viscosity at high temperatures will be measured at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Germany) using a concentric cylinder method. With the results, we will assess whether low liquidus temperature is indeed the primary factor in the JZCA model, with viscosity playing a lesser role. This observation is essential for predicting new glass compositions with desirable properties and high glass-forming ability.
