Abstract

The rapid spread of antimicrobial-resistant bacterial pathogens has become a pressing global public health issue. The expansion of sequencing technologies has enabled the development of comparative genomics methods, such as bacterial genome-wide association studies (bGWAS). This project aims to investigate bacterial evolutionary processes associated with bloodstream, respiratory tract, and urinary tract infections caused by critical priority pathogens and high-risk lineages, using omics approaches. Additionally, it seeks to elucidate the genomic bases contributing to the adaptation of these pathogens at the human-environment-animal interface, host colonization, transmissibility, pathogenicity and virulence, persistence, resistance to physiological stress and climate change, antimicrobial and disinfectant resistance, as well as clinical manifestation and prognosis of associated infections, prioritizing the integration of genomics into One Health.
