Abstract

This project aims to study the reactivity of the N(O)SO3¿ ion coordinated to ruthenium nitrosylsulphito complexes of the type trans-[Ru(NH3)4(L)(N(O)SO3)]¿, focusing on their stability in aqueous media, as well as their chemical and photochemical reactivity. To this end, the proposal includes the synthesis of a new complex, , trans-[Ru(NH3)4(pz)(N(O)SO3)](PF6) (pz = pyrazine), which will be characterized using techniques such as UV-vis, FT-IR, 1H and 15N NMR, and elemental analysis. Stability assays at pH 7.4 and in acidic medium will be conducted, along with studies of the reaction of this complex with OH¿ ions. The pKa of the N(O)SO3 ligand will also be determined. Additionally, photochemical studies in aqueous medium will be performed. Overall, this project seeks to deepen the understanding of the influence of the trans-positioned ligand L on the chemical and photochemical behavior of nitrosylsulphito complexes. The expected outcomes include parameterization of reactivity and stability properties based on the ¿-donor and ¿-acceptor characteristics of the trans-positioned ligands relative to the N(O)SO3 ligand. This study aims to contribute to the design of new nitrosylsulphito complexes with potential applications in the controlled release of nitric oxide and sulfite radicals.
