Abstract

Disaster response and risk management is an emerging issue in the face of the crisisclimate change and an increase in the occurrence of extreme events, in Brazil, with particular emphasis on hydrometeorological disasters. This work proposes to focus on the dynamics of flood events, one of the most common triggers of disasters in the country, especially in urban spaces, using the methodology of geographic matrices in a GIS environment, physical-chemical analyzes to evaluate the quality of the water that reaches the population, and the theoretical framework of risk theory, breaking down the concepts of social vulnerability, susceptibility, danger and exposure, basic to encompass such theoretical dimension, in order to constitute an understanding of the dynamics of risk in the face of such phenomena in the municipalities of Capivari and Monte Mor, where floods are frequent, contributing to the creation of a synthetic indicator of the risk of flooding in these municipalities, in order to contribute to the risk management and mitigation of damage to the population affected by disasters.
