Abstract

The search for new biomaterials for use in soft tissue healing has driven significant advancements in Dentistry. A bioglass formulation made from the bioactive glass system SiO2-CaO-Na2O-MgO-K2O-P2O5 is protected by patent BR10 INPI 20130209619, and its new formulation has been named F18. For the healing of cutaneous surgical wounds, it has been demonstrated that the F18 bioglass increases the rate of soft tissue regeneration and stimulates wound healing. Considering that postoperative pain in the donor area is the main complaint of patients following autogenous soft tissue graft surgeries, F18 bioglass could reduce morbidity and healing time in this region. Therefore, the objective of this project is to evaluate the biological and tissue responses of the bioactive glass F18® composition in the healing process of palatal mucosal lesions in rats. Ninety rats will be used, and palatal lesions will be created. The animals will then be distributed into three groups: F18 Group: wound protection with F18® gel and a protective membrane; Barrier Group: wound protection with a protective membrane only; Control Group: no wound protection. After experimental periods of 2, 5, and 10 days, the animals will be euthanized. Clinical photographic analyses, descriptive histological evaluations, and stereometric analyses will be performed to count fibroblasts, inflammatory cells, and blood vessels. Appropriate statistical tests will be applied, with a significance level of 5%.
