Abstract

The surveillance of individual behaviors in public spaces has emerged as an effective tool for preventing illicit activities worldwide. Locally, there are well-known cases where permanent surveillance techniques are applied, some of them involving biometric recognition, carried out through automated instruments (Artificial Intelligence). On the other hand, these techniques can trigger adverse effects regarding the protection of specific human rights (including privacy and freedom of expression), as well as potentially be the source of discriminatory actions, especially those generated by intelligent surveillance tools. Through a literature review and considering the technologies applied in the Égide project, this research aims to map the surveillance models implemented around the world in school environments. It also seeks to identify the effects of such tools on the management of school spaces and on the rights of the target audience of these surveillance mechanisms. As a result, the research intends to contribute to the modeling of the surveillance system to be implemented by the City Hall of Campinas (SP) under the Égide project, thereby generating positive outcomes for the safe implementation of this public policy and contributing to the protection of the human rights of the focal groups of this state action.
