Abstract

The Multidisciplinary Center for the Development of Assistive Technologies (MCDAT) is a UNESP initiative focused on the development of assistive technologies, with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with disabilities. In the state of São Paulo, there are approximately 3,350,000 people with disabilities, of which 420,000 are in a situation of social vulnerability. This highlights the importance of creating public policies and investing in accessible technologies.CMDTA seeks to promote research and technological innovations and create solutions that are appropriate to the Brazilian reality. UNESP's Bauru campus will be the administrative headquarters of CMDTA, which will bring together several laboratories and researchers to develop products, equipment, devices, software and services that promote the autonomy and inclusion of people with disabilities.The center also aims to train human resources to use these technologies and promote inclusive practices in educational and leisure environments. The project is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially with regard to health, inclusive education, innovation and reduction of inequalities. The creation of the CMDTA represents an opportunity to promote cooperation between universities and public bodies.
