Abstract

Chagas disease is endemic in Brazil and several other countries, with its chronic form potentially affecting the heart, digestive system (esophagus and colon), or remaining asymptomatic. This project focuses on the qualitative thematicanalysis of data from patients with Chagas disease in the Bolivian Chaco, following the methodology outlined byBraun & Clarke (2006). Participants will be recruited from the ongoing Corazón en Acción study. After obtaininginformed consent in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, clinical and sociodemographic data will becollected alongside qualitative information gathered by field agents. Using this data, contingency tables will begenerated to improve the visualization and understanding of disease patterns in this population. The project also aimsto develop expertise in advanced data analysis methodologies, applying specialized software. The student willreceive direct training in these tools during an academic exchange program in Germany, ensuring the rigorous andprecise analysis of the collected data. This research is part of a broader international collaboration involving Brazil,Bolivia, and Germany, aiming to enhance global health initiatives through academic and scientific exchange. Byintegrating diverse expertise and innovative methodologies, the project seeks to contribute to improved patient careand the development of more effective public health strategies for Chagas disease.
