Abstract

"More and more cities around the world are committed to developing smart city projects. One approach to elaborating these projects is to analyze global references in the development of urban technologies and strategies and adapt them to the reality of the city and country in question, proposing appropriate strategies. In Brazil, the methodology would be no different. However, a major Brazilian problem is the neglect of public spaces, essential infrastructures in the city, as they are where much of daily life occurs. Therefore, when planning for smart cities in Brazil, public spaces are urban elements that require attention. The strategies and technologies added to the concepts of smart cities can act in the evaluation and implementation of qualitative resources to public spaces.According to Murgante & Borruso (2014), the pillars of smart cities are: connections, such as networks and technological infrastructures; open data, to allow the development of innovative solutions and interaction between users, citizens, and the city; Including citizens capable of actively participating in an upward manner in city activities. Despite defined concepts, there is great heterogeneity in strategies applied in cities, especially in Brazilian cases where adoption is recent.Through case studies of references on the subject, it is possible to identify the recurrence of strategies for smart cities, specifically, how they are being applied in public spaces. With this data, it is possible to propose improvements to the strategies that are underway in Brazilian cities and add qualitative applications for public spaces, urban structures lacking in strategies and planning."
