Abstract

The increase in water contamination by pesticides, especially the herbicide glyphosate, and the environmental impacts of its byproduct AMPA require in-depth studies on efficient degradation processes. This project proposes developing and optimizing an electrochemical flow reactor for AMPA degradation, using in-situ hydrogen peroxide production combined with electrochemical Fenton and electrocoagulation processes for phosphate removal. The flow system configuration is a fundamental differential, allowing for greater reaction efficiency, better operational control, and feasibility for real-scale applications. In addition, degradation intermediates will be evaluated using advanced analytical techniques, ensuring a deeper understanding of the mechanisms involved. This study was conducted abroad due to the infrastructure available for constructing and optimizing electrochemical flow cells, allowing for the improvement of the process and its applicability in different contaminated matrices. This proposal is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 3 (Health and Well-being), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water).
