Abstract

In recent years, several countries have evaluated the formation of energy communities to better utilize distributed energy resources (DER) installed near medium-voltage grids. Clustering algorithms have been used to form DER groups, but without considering the stochasticity inherent to distributed generation (DG) and electrical demand. Additionally, energy communities can increase the resilience of the electrical grid in the face of extreme weather events or climate change. In order to assist in the study of the implementation of energy communities, this research project will develop a spatial partitioning model for the formation of these communities in extensive medium-voltage grids. This model will characterize the stochasticity of DG and electrical demand, considering the spatial dispersion of DERs and seeking to increase the resilience of the power distribution network.
