Abstract Numerous natural sources, ranging from plants to microorganisms, are excellent providers of raw materials for the development of new therapeutic products. This is due to the variety of specialized metabolites produced by these sources, as they are complex chemical substances exhibiting a wide range of therapeutic properties, including antifungal and antibacterial activities, and their effects can be enhanced when used in combination with other substances, such as EDTA.The central objective of this project is to evaluate the antimicrobial activities of extracts of aerial parts or roots of naturally occurring Physalis angulata cultivated in controlled seedbeds, and under growth treatment in different light spectra (white, red, and blue). The evaluations will be carried out both with isolated extracts and in combinations with EDTA. The bacterial strains (Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli) and yeasts (Candida albicans and Candida krusei) to be tested come from the Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Laboratory (BIOTECFAR) of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Araraquara /UNESP. The antimicrobial activity will be performed in vitro using the broth microdilution method. This method will allow the determination of the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), which is the lowest concentration of the extract capable of inhibiting the growth of the tested microorganisms, as well as the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) and Minimum Fungicidal Concentration (MFC), which will assess the efficacy of the tested antimicrobial agent. | |
