Abstract

This research internship abroad project aims to deepen the examination of the presence of modern themes in Gilda de Mello e Souza's aesthetic meditation. Modernity provided humankind with a new creative impulse, captured by our author in her essayistic prose, thus discussing the new paths of art, the artists of modern life, and the aesthetic questions raised by her time. In her work, there is an effort to carry out reading exercises of modernity. To do this, she starts from Baudelaire and the 19th-century French debate around the notion of "modernité", acclimatizing them by relating them to Brazilian Modernism, in addition to examining the planning of metropolises, the influence of technology, the expansion of avant-garde artistic movements, and the reinterpretation of art by the artists themselves.
