Abstract

Google Earth Engine is a multi-petabyte catalog of satellite images and geospatial data sets that allows users to quickly and easily view, manipulate, edit, and create spatial data. This study aims to use geoprocessing techniques and spatial algorithms to supervisedly classify images obtained for rural, urban, and wild areas of ten selected municipalities in the state of São Paulo. Images from different satellites and sensors will be used free of charge and available through Google Earth Engine. High-resolution images such as those from the LandSat-8 and Sentinel-3 satellites, which are suitable for identifying targets in urban areas, will be prioritized. Once the images have been classified using a cluster sampling scheme (each object in the image is a cluster), visits will be made to the study areas to collect samples in order to validate the classification process.
