Abstract

This project aims to investigate the periodical Boletim de Ariel, published in Rio de Janeiro between 1931 and 1939, which focused on debates concerning both the Brazilian and international publishing scenes. Additionally, it served as a platform for promoting the works of Editora Ariel, a publishing venture led by writers Gastão Cruls and Agripino Grieco, active during the same period. Unlike other publishing houses of the time, Editora Ariel did not operate a bookstore, and the establishment of the magazine can be understood as a strategy for insertion and dissemination within the vibrant publishing market of the 1930s-an initiative that was not isolated in Brazilian editorial history. Employing an analytical methodology in dialogue with digital humanities, the systematic study of Boletim de Ariel as both research object and source will broadly allow for an understanding of the magazine's purposes, the reconstruction of the 1930s publishing landscape, the intensified literary and intellectual debates, and the circulation of titles and authors launched during the period. It will also make it possible to map the intellectual, professional, and affective networks woven around the magazine and the publishing house, which brought together significant figures from the Brazilian literary field.
