Abstract The efficient synthesis of heterocycles is one of the frontiers of modern organic synthesis. Their applications in the synthesis of bioactive compounds make them one of the pillars of the synthesis of modern medicinal chemistry. While strategies aiming at oxygenated, nitrogenated and - to a certain point - sulfurated heterocycles are already well stablished, the same can't be said for heavier chalcogens (Se and Te). In asymmetric synthesis, there are few synthetic strategies for sulfurated heterocycles but virtually no for its selenium and tellurium counterparts. This work aims to create the conditions needed to fill this important gap in the literature by developing new synthethic methodologies aiming to provide the medicinal chemistry community with tools to diversify the heterocycles present in their libraries. Concepts of asymmetric catalysis with an emphashis in organocatalysis will be explored herein. (AU) | |
