The potential of the saliva as substratum for diagnostic analysis and determination of biomarkers has been evidenced recently. For being a fluid of easy collection, non-invasive and rich in information, it has great potential for the development of practical chair-side solutions for oral diseases diagnosis similarly to the tests of pregnancy and AIDS (Taba Jr. et al. 2005). From the identification of the best biomarkers, focus of this project, the knowledge transference will allow to future exploration of quick methods for clinical use without the requirements of all the infrastructure of a laboratory. Patients with chronic infections, periodontitis, cardiopathies and diabetes, due to high prevalence in the population, presence of common factors of risk and probable biomarkers, will be evaluated with the purpose to identify the best indicators. The identification of potential biomarkers will provide early identification of the disease activity and the risk evaluation of each patient. Thus, specific treatment and monitoring therapy needs will be adjusted for the achievement of better outcomes. This is a project with great potential for the development of new technologies diagnostics, practical and economic, directed for a great portion of the population affected for highly prevalent conditions.
