Abstract

Synthetic strategies toward the synthesis of selenocarbohydrates mainly reside in the insertion of the selenium atom in the anomeric position of sugars. Therefore, there is an interest in the development of methods that allow the preparation of selenocarbohydrates with the organoselenium moiety attached to other position of sugars. In this context, the present project intends to develop a short, versatile synthetic route toward the synthesis of selenocarbohydrates derived from D-galactose. The products obtained will be employed as precursors for the preparation of some important synthetic intermediates. Moreover, the biological profile of selected candidates will be evaluated both, in vivo and in vitro.
