Abstract

This study is part of an ongoing project aimed to prepare and study the biological activities (cytotoxic activity and phosphatase inhibition) of natural products and analogues. The work to be carried out this period comprises the aldol reaction between Paterson ketone 10 and aldehyde 11, the stereoselective reduction of ketone 12 and preparation of the corresponding acetonide, deprotection of p-methoxybenzylic ether 14 and tosylation of primary alcohol 15 to afford tosylate 16. The remaining steps towards analogue 6 are scheduled to be developed later on (MSc studies) once the preparation of tosylate 16 is successfully achieved.
