Abstract

Since the minimum criteria for evaluation of the success of osseointegrated implants was considered by ALBREKTSON et al. (1986), centers of all the world have applied them for evaluation of the therapy, having stablished the Brånemark system as reference on Implantology. The osseointegrated implants in two surgical steps have presented high indexes of clinical, radiographic and histological success. The immediate loading after installation of the implants, following rigorous criteria of indication, has also disclosed to be a convenient alternative considering the aspects lasting of the treatment, comfort and economy. In the decade of 90 the first clinical case on the use of implantations in cleft lip and palate patients was published. As the time goes by this type of treatment was proved as a great advance in the rehabilitation of these individuals. The review of literature evidences lack of information based in representative samples, regarding the long term success of immediate loaded implant-supported prosthesis installed in cleft dental arches, especially those reconstructed by bone grafts. This study aims to raise the behavior of these implantations and the corresponding prosthesis, analyzing the rate of success and causes of the failures occurred in order to offer clinical basement for the establishment of criteria for indication of this kind of treatment in cleft individuals and to contribute for the spreading of data in international literature.
