Abstract

Optimization-based studies are necessary and have been more and more used in power systems control centers. The on-line implementations of such kind of studies is a major challenge that must be overcome for the optimal power flow be accepted and become a standard tool in control centers. However, it is important that the formulations be able to represent practical problems in a more realistic way. In particular, accurate models of external areas for optimization studies associated to voltage automatic control in interconnected power systems are of paramount importance. This research project aims to enhancing the Equivalent Optimal Power Flow model through voltage control studies and reactive power management applications. These studies will be based on the data and on the hierarchical operation structure of the Brazilian interconnected power system. (AU)
