Abstract

Highly boron doped diamond electrodes will be used to determine, in aqueous medium, the reduction potential of the RNO2 / RNO2·- couple for a series of nitro compounds. The velocity constants for the interaction of the free radicals with molecular oxygen (kO2) will be also determined and used to evaluate the relative reactivity of each compound. Electrochemical data will be related with the respective biological activity, which will be determined by the Prof. Dr. Leoberto Costa Tavares´s group in the Faculdade de Ciências Farmacêuticas – USP. This project is related with the thematic one: “Antichagasic potential compounds derivative from nitro heterocyclic compounds”, FAPESP process number 2001/01192-3, coordinated by Profa. Dra. Elizabeth Igne Ferreira from Faculdade de Ciências Farmacêuticas – USP.
