Pregnancy is a period distinguished by the occurrence of physiological adaptations in the body of the woman, involving pulmonary, metabolic and endocrine. Cigarette smoking may be associated with such changes bring harm to both the maternal and fetal health, it is known that smoking increases the amount of abdominal fat and creates a framework for low-grade systemic inflammation. Obesity and inflammation generate reduced content of glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4), thereby improving insulin resistance. Thus, this study aims to investigate the effect of smoking on insulin sensitivity and on the content of GLUT4 protein in pregnant rats and their offspring smoking. Will be studied 40 female Wistar rats (10 per group) were divided into: CG-pregnant rats sacrificed nonsmokers after pregnancy, CL-nonsmoking pregnant rats sacrificed after the end of lactation, FG - pregnant rats sacrificed and subjected to smoking after pregnancy and FL - pregnant rats subjected to smoking and sacrificed after the end of lactation. For the offspring will be selected approximately six individuals of each sex, which will be sacrificed after 2 months of age (young adult stage) after 21 days of lactation and 39 days of feeding with standard chow. Groups will be divided by sex into four groups: the offspring of rats of the CG (PCG), offspring of the rats of group CL (PCL), offspring of the rats of group FG (PFG), female offspring of rats with ICL ( PFL). Mothers and their offspring, will be sacrificed under anesthesia for tissue collection, gastrocnemius skeletal muscle and white adipose tissue periuterino for further analysis of the content of GLUT4 protein by Western blotting and chemiluminescence. Results are expressed as mean ± SEM. The statistical evaluation will be done by comparison of means - ANOVA - parametric and post-test when necessary. The differences between groups are considered significant when P <0.05.
