Abstract

This project aims to characterize 2 isolates of Sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV), currently the most important sugarcane infecting-virus in Brazil. Mosaic, caused by SCMV is potentially a constant threat to sugarcane growers. Additionally sugarcane clones and varieties of the IAC cultivar development program will be screened for their reaction to mosaic, using established mechanical inoculation tests in greenhouses. Symptom evaluation will be validated by ELISA and RT-PCR tests.
