Abstract

Brazil is the biggest producer of orange (Citrus sinensis) and the majority of this fruit is intended to industries of concentrated orange juice that was responsible for revenue more than US$ 2 billion in export trade (2007). São Paulo State contributes with 70% of national production of orange and generates 98% of manufactured orange juice. Notwithstanding, the performance of this sector have been hardly exposed to danger due to diseases and pests, as example the Greening that was detected on Citrus Brazilian plantation in 2004. Since the first reports up to this moment, this disease has no method for early detection. The Greening is increasing in an exponential way and affects approximately 4% of orchard in a central region of São Paulo State. Nowadays, the alternatives for producers are inspection of orchards, elimination of infected trees and air pulverization for control of insects. The accumulated damages are high, but are not higher than what can happen with the country economy. In the case of the disease will be not ruled as soon as possible. With this panorama, the scope of this research plane is the development of a method for early diagnoses of Greening. For this purpose, the fluorescence images will be used, specially their generated by LIFI (Laser-Induced Fluorescence Imaging) and, analyses of variation in a mineral composition of leaves due to the disease using LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy). The obtained data will be evaluated with chemometrics tools, such as, PCA (Principal Component Analysis). (AU)
