Abstract

At first, this project intends to verify empirically how media discourse enters in dialogue with the juridical one. Our doctorate thesis has showed that juridical discourses use media - public opinion spokesmen - as an argument in law processes. So, this project is going to analyze the same law process studied before - the one which judged the four defendants who murdered a pataxó Indian, in Brasília, on April 20th, 1997 (process n. 17.901/97), but will focus only on the period corresponding to the first year of the process. It will also analyze the news about the same case, published in the newspapers Correio Braziliense and Folha de S. Paulo during the corresponding period. The research will be based on Dialogical Discourse Analysis, inspired in Bakhtin's Circle works. The aim of the research is a deeper comprehension of the relation and dialogical resonances between both discourses, as well as of the discourses themselves, that identify with each other in immediate but also larger verbal interaction, that define appreciative intonations and conflictive values. Finally, we intend to disclose the mutual influences they exert on each other and verify how the chosen enunciations - social, political and historically situated -, reveal world conceptions that come or not into agreement.
