Abstract

The titanium has innumerable favorable characteristics, including: biocompatibility, high resistance to the corrosion, low density, high relation strength/mass, high ductility, low thermal conductivity, as well as adjusted mechanical properties that favor its increasing application in structures of prostheses. However, despite the current period of training of development reached with the available methods of casting, some defects still are frequent, as incomplete casting, internal porosity and extreme roughness. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of the coating of the wax pattern with investment based on MgO/Al2O3 on the roughness of surface of casting titanium with four different investments Rematitan Ultra (based on MgO/Al2O3 - specific for titanium); Rematitan Plus (phosphates-bonded investment - specific for titanium), Rema Exact and Castorit Super-C (phosphates-bonded investment - alternative), by means of assay of roughness in Rugosimeter Mitutoyo (400 Mitutoyo SJ - Japan). Thus, the proposal aims to get subsidies for the study of the viability of the covering use of less cost for the casting of structures of prostheses in titanium, what it collaborates for the popularization of this important material.
