Acute toxicity of Trichlorfon in formulation for application in water and evaluating the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in three species of neotropical fishes

Abstract

The contamination of the aquatic environment with toxic substances occurs in many respects, the most common application directly to the control of pathogens in aquaculture. The organophosphate insecticide Trichlorfon is among the most used for the control of fish parasites. However, in aqueous solution is transformed into dichlorvos, which is much more toxic and has a potential risk of poisoning fish. In Brazil, the masoten® formulation is the first ectoparasiticide recorded in fish, it is necessary to study their possible ecotoxicological effects on acute and farmed species targets of treatment. Thus, this project will have the following objectives: 1) determine the acute toxicity (LC(I)50;48) masoten® formulation (Trichlorfon 80%) for fish species: pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus), tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) and tambacu (P. mesopotamicus x C. macropomum male x female), 2) evaluate the effects of treatments with masoten ® on the variables of water quality (pH, dissolved oxygen and electrical conductivity) during the toxicity tests, 3) determine the effect of masoten® in the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in brain and muscle of fish after the tests of acute toxicity.
