Abstract

Brazil is the largest consumer of pesticides in the world and these chemicals can achieve the non-target organisms of applications in the terrestrial environment. One way to assess the pesticides in the environment is the use of bioindicator organisms. The objectives of this proposal are: to determine the toxicity (LC and EC50) of atrazine herbicide to aquatic bioindicator organisms: fish mato grosso (Hyphessobrycon eques) for snail (Pomacea canaliculata) for macrophytes (Lemna minor, Azolla caroliniana and Wolffia sp.) and the Daphnia magna; evaluate the sublethal effects of atrazine on histology of gill, liver and kidney and clinical signs of poisoning the fish (H. eques) during the acute toxicity testing; and determine the quality of water for the acute toxicity tests for fish and snail. Therefore, the bodies will undergo acclimatization and then the acute toxicity tests will be installed. After the completion of the toxicity test for thick bush fish, gills organs, liver and kidney for histological analysis of the possible effects of atrazine will be sampled. Acute toxicity data will be submitted to linear regression and is estimated lethal and effective concentration 50% by the method of Trimmed Spearman-Karber and histological results will be photodocumented.
