Abstract This proposal intends to use a mathematical modeling to determine the dose distribution in a human liver when neutron activated glass microspheres are directly injected in the organ through an irrigating artery. To accomplish that, the liver and neighbor tissues as well as the radiation source (in the present case, the microspheres) will be mathematically modeled. From this modeling the equivalent dose and the absorbed dose distribution in the damaged region will be evaluated with good accuracy by using the Monte Carlo method. It is proposed the use of the equivalent dose calculation method with a model previously proposed. Further on the dose distribution evaluated by the mathematical modeling will be compared with the experimental data determined from artificial liver and neighbor equivalent tissues. In this case, the experimental absorbed dose will be determined by using thermo luminescent TLD-100 dosimeters, appropriated for this purpose. In the future, this research can be used for applications in malign liver tumor treatments, and therefore it is important the precise dosimetry of the irradiated region since the deviation between the absorbed dose in a specific region should not be more than 5% compared to the dose prescribed by the radiotherapy physician.
