Abstract

This post-doctoral project aims to study the praxis of the inquisitors of Lisbon's tribunal of the Holy Office, having as chronological boudaries 1552 (the stabilization of its functionning), and 1774 (the reforms of the Pombaline era). This study will be done based on the variations found in space and time on the inquisitorial procedure, on the career of the inquisitors and the trials they acted. With this study we aim to give a contribution to the undestanding of the institutional and juridical board, meaning, part of the political structures of Portugal and the Portuguese Atlantic world of the Ancien Régime.
