Abstract

The data about the stress distribution on bone/implant interface during the association between a distal-extension removable partial denture (DERPD) and an osseointegrated implant are inconclusive because the previews studies has applied some simplifying hypotheses that can compromise the final results. These hypotheses are necessary to make possible some studies but it can compromise the final results, like in DERPD supported by implant, once it does not establish the independence between structures like implant and denture, as well as among implant components. By this way, the objective of this study is to evaluate, by bidimensional finite element analysis, the influence of the contact elements place between denture base and healing abutment, and between implant and healing abutment, in the stress distribution and displacement during the association between a DERPD and an osseointegrated implant. MATERIAL AND METHOD: 4 models will be elaborated by AutoCAD 2006 software: MA hemiarch containing the natural tooth and edentulous space for distal; MB similar to MA, with an conventional DERPD replacing the absent teeth; MC1 similar to MB, with an osseointegrated implant (3.75 mm x 10.0 mm) supporting the DERPD acrylic base, without contact elements; MC2 similar to MC1, with the contact elements between denture base and healing abutment, and between implant and healing abutment. The numerical analysis will be performed by ANSYS 10.0. The boundary conditions will be established by symmetry at the lateral side and asymmetry in the bottom of all models. The loading (50N) will be carried out in each cusp simultaneously. The results will be analyzed by stress and displacement maps and compared to each other. (AU)
