Abstract

We propose investigations to extend preliminary observations that the bioflaronoid epicatechin rescued protection by ascorbate against peroxide-induced bleaching of cytochrome e that was prevented by liposomes of mitochondrial-like composition. Objectives: determine the prevalence of this interaction among bioflavonoids, and this influences of this inter-action and other redox factors on cytochrome c-catalyzed peroxidation's of liposomes and mitochondria. In addition we propose experiments to investigate the influences of peroxides, ascorbate, bioflavonoids and other redox factors on apoptosis triggered by cytochrome e release from mitochondrial membranes.
