Abstract

The problem of estimating and evaluate the reliability of coherent systems is widely studied in medicine and engineering. Methods for estimating system and component reliability are treated in many different ways. In general, the solutions presented are extremely limited and their implementations are given only for special cases. As far as we know, until now, the main studies were conducted to component systems in series. This project proposes to develop methods to evaluate the distribution functions (survival) of coherent systems with k (k > 1) components: systems for which at least j (j e 1) components must be working for the system works (j-out-of-k). The particular case of j = k (j = 1) is known as system with components in series (parallel). Important applications of this theory are the risk analysis models in Finance and Medicine. (AU)
