Abstract

In many complex disease progression processes, patients are followed over time and all relevant events occurring are recorded. Such data can be found in a wide range of biomedical problems, including bone marrow transplant data. Multistate models are an appealing alternative and have been successfully used to model such data. The aim of this project is to investigate new methodologies for the analysis of time to event data in such complex studies. More specifically, the inclusion of random effect in multi-state models will be considered and also further investigation on models based on the pseudo-value approach. Applications of the new methodologies to bone marrow transplant data will be focused. In addition, the importance of the evaluation of the quality-of-life of patients has increased lately, so that appropriate methodologies for incorporation of quality-of-life in the analysis of survival data must be developed. Multi-state models can be used in studies in order to incorporate the quality-of-life and, therefore, it is also planned to apply the new methodologies developed on quality-of-life studies. (AU)
