The role of the g9/2 orbital in the odd-odd galium isotopes

Abstract

This research project proposes the systematic study of the excited states of nuclei with valence nucleons occupying the pf shell, with possible excitations to the g9/2, d3/2 and g7/2 orbitals. In particular, the importance of orbital g9/2 in the structure of odd-odd 64Ga, 66Ga and 70Ga will be studied. The 64,66Ga will be produced with fusion-evaporation reactions to be performed with the IFUSP Pelletron accelerator. The structure of these nuclei will be studied using the gamma-ray spectrometer SACI-PERERE, and the interpretation of their structures will be done through the Large Scale Shell Model. The isotope 70Ga will be studied in the superconducting linear accelerator at Florida State University, located in Tallahassee, using a gamma spectrometer composed of three clovers and 10 GeHP with Compton suppressors. This research project is part of the Ph.D thesis of the student Paula Rangel Pestana Allegro, being performed under my supervision at the Instituto de Física da USP (Proc. FAPESP 08/54447-8). This application to FAPESP seeks my participation in the experiment to study the 70Ga nucleus through the reaction 55Mn(18O,2pn)70Ga to be performed at Florida State University. (AU)
