Abstract

Barychelidae includes two subfamilies, Barychelinae and Sasoninae, 42 genera and 296 species. Sasoninae is currently comprised of four genera: Sason Simon, 1887, Cosmopelma Simon 1889, Neodiplothele Mello-Leitão, 1917 and Paracenobiopelma Feio, 1952. For the first time a phylogenetic analysis the interelationship of all genera of Sasoninae are tested. The analysis is based on the data set composed of 49 terminal taxa, which includes 17 species of Sasoninae in the ingroup and representatives of the subfamily Barychelinae and the family Theraphosidae as outgroup, scored for 54 morphological characters. Two parameters were used in the cladistics analysis: equal weighted characters and implied weighting. The discussion is based on the results of the analysis using the implied weighting of K-value 20, which obtained three most parsimonious trees with 200 steps each, CI=33, RI=74 and Fit=5.337. The results of the analysis show that the subfamily Sasoninae is not a monophyletic group. Barychelidae is considered paraphyletic since the genera are divided in to three distinct clades. Therefore \"Barychelidae\" is considered a junior synonym of Theraphosidae. Twenty-one genera analysed here, which is included in \"Barychelidae\", form a monophyletic group with the other genera of Theraphosidae, therefore here is proposed for this group the status of subfamily Barychelinae within Theraphosidae. Barychelinae is divided in two monophyletic tribes: Barychelini Simon, 1887 e Sasonini Simon, 1887. The genera Ammonius Thorell, 1899, Cyrtogrammomma Pocock, 1895, and Thalerommata Ausserer, 1875, should be transferred from \"Barychelidae\" to other subfamilies of Theraphosidae. The genera Cosmopelma, Neodiplothele, Paracenobiopelma, new genus 1 e new genus 2, form a monophyletic group supported by two synapomorphies and a homoplasy, and here is considered as a new subfamily, Cosmopelmatinae new subf. Based in this analysis is proposed a new diagnosis to Sason Simon, 1887. Paracenobiopelma gerecormophila Feio, 1952 is redescribed. Two monotypic new genera are described to Brazil (AU)
